The Maday Home

The Maday house was originally located approximately 30 miles west of Leduc, not too far from the community of Genesee. Mike Maday bought the quarter from the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1931 for $25. He cleared the quarter of trees, then squared the logs and used them to build the house.

In 1933, Mike married Bessie Kashmer from the Calmar district and they moved into their new home.

In 1952, Mike passed away, but Bessie stayed on the farm to raise their three children. She sold the farm to her daughter in 1968, but continued to live in the house for several more years before she retired to Warburg.

The porch, dividing wall and ceiling were additions to the original log home. Thanks to Terry Knull for providing historical information about the Maday Home.

The Maday Home now resides at Alberta Heritage Exposition Park.
The house has been furnished with some beautiful pieces, like this antique organ in the living room.
The kitchen is outfitted with authentic appliances and equipment, such as would have been found in a typical 1930s country farm house.
